Ahead of the draft, all the teams got the chance to retain several players from their previous squads up until February 29.
The women’s teams got to retain a maximum of eight players, while the men’s teams were allowed to retain up to ten players, alongside one centrally contracted England star. Teams that failed to retain a centrally contracted player had to make a draft to ensure the same.

Draft Order
Teams that underperformed in the previous season were prioritised in the draft order, with the draft order running in reverse from the 2023 final standings. As such, the lower-placed teams made their selections first.
Squad size and composition
The women’s teams got to draft 13 players each, while the men’s teams drafted 14 players each. Each team had to include a maximum of three overseas players.
Right-to-match option
This rule allowed teams to re-sign a player from their 2023 squad that they initially did not retain, even if another team expressed interest in the player during the draft. However, the team needs to match the offered salary.
Wildcard draft rule
The wildcard draft rule will serve as a supplementary draft, which will take place near the start of the tournament. Teams can use this final opportunity to select additional players based on their recent domestic form.
