De La Hoya won the super featherweight title in his 12th professional bout and the lightweight title shortly thereafter, making him an Olympic gold medallist in 1992. In 1996, “The Golden Boy” confirmed his status as a pound-for-pound contender and genuine celebrity with a brutal knockout of super lightweight champion and boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez.
