In a significant turn of events, the West Bengal Police issued a notice to the film’s director, accusing him of attempting to tarnish the image of Bengal through his movie.
The notice, citing the Amherst Street Police Station, Kolkata Case No. 90, dated May 11, 2023, quotes from many parts of the Indian Criminal Code, including U/s 120B/153A/501/504/505/295A, as well as the Cinematograph Act of 1952 and the Information Technology Act of 2000.
According to the notice, there are good reasons to query the director about the specifics of the matter that is being looked into. The director is required to appear before Inspector Subhabrata Kar, Additional Officer-in-Charge of Amherst Street Police Station, on May 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., in line with the authority granted by sub-section (1) of Section 41A of the CrPC.
Because of the controversy it has caused, “The Diary of West Bengal” trailer has been the center of attention. As the issue intensifies, the public continues to participate in debates by expressing their thoughts and worries about the movie’s subject matter. So, let’s find out everything about the movie:
Trailer of The Diary of West Bengal decoded
With accusations of injustice against the Hindu minority taking center stage, the publication of the trailer for “The Diary of West Bengal” has sparked a whirlwind of controversy. The movie, which was directed by Jitendra Tyagi, also known as Wasim Rizvi, explores West Bengal’s sociopolitical landscape and emphasizes the changing dynamics of the area.
From the trailer’s opening moments, a dialogue resonates, emphasizing that democracy is a government elected by the people. However, it also implies that if Muslims form the majority, then the law will adhere to Sharia.
After this exchange, a character playing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is shown vehemently voicing her opinions on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
By showing glimpses of societal upheaval and the apparent departure of people, the film further illustrates the worsening situation in West Bengal. Notably, the trailer suggests a significant influx of Rohingya Muslims from Bangladesh, being resettled in the state.
Movie’s storyline
The plot presented in the teaser suggests that West Bengal is worse off than the problematic circumstances in Kashmir, with the Hindu population experiencing persecution similar to what Hindus in Assam have gone through.
The movie seems to emphasize the claimed persecution of Hindus in West Bengal by people with extreme ideologies, mostly Muslims.
The movie has no release date or cast information as of yet with it in production at the moment.
