In the courtroom drama, Manoj plays real-life attorney PC Solanki, who from 2013 until 2018 successfully prosecuted self-described godman Asaram Bapu in the famed rape case and won the conviction. Although the movie is based on a true story, it fictionalizes a number of details and avoids using most of the characters’ true names, except Solanki.

Yet, it appears that the story’s inspiration, lawyer PC Solanki, is not really impressed. He recently launched a lawsuit against the film’s creators, alleging that they had breached his intellectual property rights.

Since then, Solanki has become the talk of the town, with many people trying to find out more about him. So, here’s what we know about him:

Who is PC Solanki?

PC Solanki is a renowned Indian lawyer. He has been in the news because the recently released Manoj Bajpayee-starring “Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai” is currently receiving many favorable reviews.

His real name is Poonam Chand Solanki. He was born in 1973 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His father’s name is Shiv Ram Solanki, who is a former railway mechanic, whereas his mother’s name is Aichuki Devi, who is a homemaker. He also has three sisters.

PC Solanki did his initial education at Central School (now known as K.V. No. 1 Air Force School, Jodhpur). Subsequently, he studied B.Com. and LL.M. at Jai Narayan Vyas University (JNVU), Jodhpur. He joined the Bar Council of Rajasthan in 1996 after receiving his legal degree from post-graduate school.

He is married to Poonam Chand Solanki and the father of one son. Solanki is currently 50 years old. He didn’t charge any fees for fighting the case against Asaram Bapu. His net worth isn’t known.

His career

PC Solanki started practicing law in a sessions court in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in 1996 after becoming affiliated with the Bar Council of Rajasthan. Throughout the course of her two-decade career as an advocate, Solanki has contested cases in trial courts, session courts, high courts, and the Supreme Court.

He first gained notoriety in 2002 when he petitioned the Rajasthan High Court to stop the immersion of Ganesh idols made of plaster of Paris in Gulab Sagar because it killed aquatic life. But it was his protracted court battle with godman Asaram Bapu—which he ultimately won—that catapulted him to celebrity.

Due to PC Solanki’s efforts, the godman was accused of rape on additional occasions throughout the five-year trial. Despite having to contend with prominent members of the legal community like Salmaan Khursheed and Ram Jethmalani, Solanki remained unfazed. Asaram was finally found guilty of rape in April 2018 by the Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court, and he was given a life term in jail.
