After Lakshya Sen lost his men’s singles semi-final tie on Saturday, Indian medal hopes at the 2023 Thailand Open disappeared into thin air. Despite showing glimpses of his brilliance, Sen lost against experienced Vitidsarn by score of 13-21, 19-21 that allowed the local favorite to qualify for the summit clash on Sunday.

On Saturday, top-seed An Se-young ended Carolina Marin’s impressive run at the the 2023 Thailand Open to qualify for the championship match. In order to advance towards the final, the Korean shuttler defeated the Rio 2016 Olympic winner by score of 21-16, 21-12. Meanwhile, third-seed He Bingjiao dominated Dane shuttler Mia Blichfeldt to win 21-13, 21-18 and secure her berth in the women’s single final.

Lakshya Sen, however, was unable to qualify for the men’s singles final as he was lost against Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn by a score of 13-21, 19-21. With Sen’s defeat, Indian challenge at the 2023 Thailand Open was over and any medal hopes were dashed. The outcome of the match confirms that Lee Cheuk Yiu will compete for the men’s singles championship against local favorite Vitidsarn.

It has been revealed that each singles category winner of the Thailand Open, which has a total prize pool of $420,000, would get a sum of $31,500. Indian star Lakshya Sen will return home with $6,090 in prize money after suffering a hard-fought defeat against second-seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
