Tensions are growing in the French camp after Kylian Mbappe missed the crucial penalty which cost them EURO 2020. His arrogant behavior in the squad has been criticized by many French players.
At times it felt like he was the weakest link in the French team. After a disgraceful performance in the EURO 2020, he missed the crucial 5th spot-kick in the penalty shootout and did not seem upset about it in the end.
He had a wonderful season with PSG scoring 111 goals in just 127 appearances in all competitions but has since not been able to replicate his goal-scoring form in the EURO 2020 where he failed to score in any of the four games in the competition.
Tension in the french squad & Relationship with fellow teammates
Olivier Giroud
Their is some distance between both the players and it is clearly evident as both the players have publically criticised each other in the past. Giroud lashed out in the press conference and made following comments about his teammate.
The relationship betwwen both the players took a hit in a friendly match against Bulgaria. Giroud came on as a substitue and scored a brace in a 3-0 victory. After the match, he publically criticised performance of his fellow teammate in the press conference.
He felt that he was ignored by Kylain Mbappe at crucial times where the young striker went for glory instead of a simple pass. Mbappe feels that it is not a big deal and they should concentrate on representing their National team.
“It’s more about releasing it publicly. I saw him in the dressing room, I congratulated him on his goals, he didn’t say anything to me. I heard about it in the press. That’s more (important) than what he said, he didn’t say anything bad.”
Mbappe clarified the growing tension between both the players and has advised his fellow teammate to move on and concentrate for the betterment of the team. The French camp seems irritated with the young striker and feel that he needs to be more mature.
Antoine Griezmann
Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has also felt that Kylian Mbappe has a certain kind of overconfidence in him and can sense his arrogance in the training session. He already thinks of himself as a superstar but their is always a scope for improvement.
