With New Zealand decimating Afghanistan on Sunday, India’s match against Namibia became an inconsequential one. No matter the outcome of the showdown on Monday, India’s destiny was sealed with the side set to exit the T20 World Cup 2021 owing to its woeful display in its opening couple of encounters.

However, the occasion still held value owing to both Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri stepping down from their roles in the aftermath of the clash. Where Shastri was leaving his role at the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli was stepping out as the captain of the T20I setup for the final team.

The occasion also saw the Indian side show their respect to Late Tarak Sinha. All the players of the side wore black armbands on their shirt to honour the much respected coach, a figure who had helped groom a string of stalwarts over the years.

Know Who Was Tarak Sinha

The founder of Sonnet Cricket Club, which produced a string of international and first-class cricketers had breathed his last on Saturday after losing his battle to cancer which he had been battling with vigor over the last couple of months. Current Indian wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant was one of the players to have been lucky enough to be under the tutelage of the revered figure.

Surinder Khanna, Rishabh Pant, Anjum Chopra, Rumeli Dhar, Dronacharya Award recipient Sinha also briefly coached the Indian Women’s Team and was a Ranji Trophy coach as well.

“Tarak sir’s pride was his students, and his support through this period kept him going. He was only thinking about grooming young talent during this battle. Even at the age of 70, he was enthusiastic about getting to the field and working on young cricketers”, said the Sonnet Cricket Club in a statement.
