History Of The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

2006-07: The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was founded as the BCCI dispatched its state structure in the 2006-07 season with 27 Ranji teams separated into 5 Zones with the name of Inter-State T20 Championship. Winners and Runners up of each Zone are eligible for the knockout stage.

2012-13: In the 2012-13 season, the knockout stage was replaced with a Super League where each Zonal Winners and Runners up are separated into 2 groups and the winner of each group went into the final.

2018-19: After the inclusion of 9 new teams in the 2018-19 season, the zonal structure is canceled and teams are divided into 5 groups with Group leader and runner-up teams qualifying for the Super League. The 10 groups are separated into two and the Super League Group Winners play the Final.
