Sha’Carri Richardson will compete in her first individual race of 2024 at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, opting for the 200m event, where she previously secured a bronze medal behind Shericka Jackson in Budapest. Swedish pole vaulting sensation Duplantis is one of the 12 Olympic champions expected to shine at the Egret stadium in Xiamen.
At Xiamen, the high jump will feature Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim against world indoor champion Hamish Kerr, while Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo aims to dominate the triple jump against Hugues Fabrice Zango, the titleholder in Budapest. Meanwhile, local favorite Lijiao Gong, the Tokyo 2020 Games shot put winner, will compete against two-time world champion Chase Jackson in the opening two meetings.
In May, all eyes will be on Doha as 400m hurdlers Abderrahaman Samba and 2022 world champion Alison Dos Santos return after battling injuries this season. However, a highly anticipated showdown with three-time world champion Karsten Warholm might have to wait until Oslo. Additionally, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra aims to leave his mark on the season in Qatar.
