Ahead of Wednesday’s closing ceremony at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, Vietnam have amassed total of 355 medals including 136 gold medals to finish at the top. Meanwhile, Thailand sit second with humongous total of 312 medals that include 108 golds. Despite their strong start, hosts Cambodia will have to settle for fourth place as they finished with 81 gold medals

After defeating the hosts Cambodia 80-69 in a thrilling final on Tuesday at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, the Philippines men’s basketball team successfully completed their quest for redemption at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. Following a close first quarter in which the hosts gained a one-point lead, the Philippines erupted in the second, outscoring Cambodia 23-11 to take a 44-33 edge into halftime.
Before this year’s 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where the first spots in the Olympic qualifying round for the Paris 2024 Games would be on the line, the Gilas have been given a significant boost by regaining control of the regional championship. Thailand had earlier defeated reigning champions Indonesia to claim bronze.
On the final day of competition at the Southeast Asian Games 2023 in Cambodia, badminton featured five finals. Supanida Katethong defeated her countrywoman Lalinrat Chaiwan in the women’s singles match by score of 21-12, 21-14. Meanwhile, Christian Adinata defeated Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in a close three-set match, winning the men’s singles title by score of 21-12, 18-21, 21-18.
Vietnam defeated Myanmar with a spirited 2-0 victory in the highly anticipated Women’s Football final of the Southeast Asian Games 2023. With this victory, Vietnam was able to successfully retain its championship for the fourth consecutive year. Vietnam’s first-ever presence at the Women’s World Cup later this summer makes the victory all the more significant. In the women’s football competition, Vietnam won their eighth gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games, while Myanmar won its first silver medal since 2005.
