Lauren Bernett, a rookie catcher for James Madison University’s softball team, died at the age of 20 know her death reason, news and obituary 

Lauren Bernett, a great softball player for James Madison University in Virginia who guided the team to a historic run to the Women’s College World Series last year, died unexpectedly on Tuesday at the age of 20.

JMU President Jonathan Alger confirmed Bernett’s death, a rookie catcher who was 3rd on the team in home runs and second in RBIs. In a statement, Alger said,

Our hearts are aching, hearing the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes. Lauren Bernett was a high-achieving member of our softball team and a great ambassador of JMU and our athletics program. She was a key member of our 2021 Women’s College World Series team as a freshman catcher last year.

The Colonial Athletic Association named Bernett “Player of the Week” on Monday. So, let’s find out more about her.

Who Was Lauren Bernett?

Lauren Bernett was born in the year 2001 in McDonald, Pennsylvania. She was a softball player at JSU. Scott and Kim Bernett are her mother and father’s names. Her mother was a softball player at Washington and Jefferson College, as well. She was the youngest of four siblings, with two sisters and two brothers.

She attended South Fayette High School. She then went on to attend James Madison University. She intends to major in Biology and minor in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She was a National Honor Society member.

She was a 20-year-old softball player when she died. Bernett, the Dukes’ sophomore catcher, was having her greatest week on the field in her JMU career.

Her Career

Before entering JMU, she was a four-year varsity letter winner and the TCS East Coast Summer Nationals Runner-Up in 2018. She also played travel ball with Team Pennsylvania Fastpitch and 18u since her freshman year.

She was nominated to the VaSID All-State Second Team as a freshman, with a season-high of 18 putouts against Liberty (5/21) and a 2-for-4 performance with one RBI in the Columbia Super Regional Finals (5/30).

She hit three home runs, including one in the final game of the Knoxville Regional against Liberty (5/23) and a season-high three hits against George Washington (2/27). After hitting four hits, two of which were doubles, in JMU’s inaugural weekend at the Cavalier Classic, she was awarded CAA Rookie of the Week (3/2).

The CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll was also bestowed on her (Fall 2020 and Spring 2021). She was on the Dean’s List for the Fall of 20.

Death Cause Of Lauren Bernett

Lauren Bernett’s death is still a mystery to everyone, yet she did not commit suicide. Despite the fact that rumours of her suicide have been spreading on the Internet, it would be unethical to confirm or present a problem until it is addressed by one of the recognised sources.

Her death was described as a “devastating tragedy” by the JMU.
