It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we confirm the death of singer Gal Costa this morning in Sao Paulo.

Gal Costa was a well-known Brazilian singer. She has been in the news because she passed away recently at the age of 77.
Her full name was Gal Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos. She was born on 26 September 1945, in the city of Salvador of Brazil. Her mother’s name is Mariah Costa Penna and his father’s name is Arnaldo Burgos.
She was bisexual and was infatuated with Marina Lima in the 1990s.
She died on November 9, 2022, in São Paulo, Brazil. At the time of her death, she was 77 years old
Her Career
In order to get more involved with music, Gal Costa took a job as a clerk in Salvador’s largest record shop. When she was 18, Andréa Gadelha introduced her to Caetano Veloso, with whom she quickly grew close.
On the evening of August 22, 1964, she made her stage debut at the concert Nós, por exemplo (We, For Example), where she shared the stage with Veloso, Gil, Maria Bethânia, and Tom Zé, among others.
She also appeared at the same venue and with the same vocal partners in Nova Bossa Velha, Velha Bossa Nova (New Old Wave, Old New Wave) the same year.
On Bethia’s debut album, which was published in 1965, she made her first professional recording. Later, she released “Eu vim da Bahia,” her debut single.
“Domingo,” Gal Costa’s debut album, was released by Philips Records in 1967. She joined the Tropi-Calia movement in 1968. “Tropicália: ou Panis et Circenses” has four songs she recorded. The songs were “Baby,” “Mame coragem,” “Parque industrial,” and “Enquanto seu lobo no vem.”
Gal launched her self-titled solo debut album in 1969, which featured the songs “Baby” and “Divino Maravilhoso.” She recorded her second solo album, named “Gal,” in the same year.
Gal has recorded songs written by some of the most well-known composers in Brazil, including Tom Jobim, Ben, and Erasmo Carlos. She played the singer Carmen Miranda in the 1995 movie “The Mandarin” (O Mandarim). She has songs in three languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Cause Of Death Of Gal Costa
Her cause of death has not been revealed yet but she had surgery three weeks back. Costa underwent surgery in the September to get a tumor out of her nasal cavity and her press office said, “We inform that the singer Gal Costa has been operated for the removal of a lump in the right nasal cavity, and during the period of convalescence her performances are suspended, which will return as soon as she is discharged from the competent medical body”.
