The Singapore Grand Prix has become the latest causality to fall prey to the havoc wrecked worldwide by the deadly Coronavirus and be cancelled
Across the world, the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has caused massive turmoil. The upheaval rendered by COVID has largely affected the world of sports as well with a string of events being curtailed or entirely truncated.
Formula 1 hasn’t been any different with the racing circuit seeing manifold races being taken away from their original venues. The Singapore Grand Prix has in particular suffered immensely with F1 confirming that the country would not be hosting a race for the second year running.
F1 Takes The Cancelled Singapore Grand Prix Off The Calendar
The massive setback came to the fore on Friday proceeding the practice sessions at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The latest development comes in the wake of the immigration restrictions ingrained by the Singapore government, ones which make it impossible for the race to go ahead this year.
Although Singapore is on the UK government’s list of safe countries to travel to, the host country is said to be wary of conducting the race. Having managed to mitigate the affects of the virus across the last one year, Singapore is said to hold apprehensions to allowing drivers from across the global stage to grace its land.
Despite the Singapore GP still four months way, F1 has decided to make the decision to accord teams and drivers plenty of time to know about the new venue. While no decision has been taken as of now for the October 1-3 race, China or Turkey are both being talked about as the new location.
Japan GP Doubtful As Well
The Japan GP to be held from October 8-10 is said to be up in the air as well. While Japan are adamant to go ahead with the Olympic Games in July, the country is currently fraught with COVID positive cases.
Teams could decide to pull out of the grand prix if things don’t massively improve across the next couple of months. Both the Mexico and Brazil grand prix are set to be questionable given the ongoing medical crisis in both the countries.
