Despite the seer’s insistence that there is no reason to be afraid, protests erupted in Chitradurga, Karnataka, calling for harsh punishment against him. The cops allegedly did nothing despite medical examinations being finished yesterday night, according to the demonstrators.
According to the seer’s counsel, the Chitradurga police stopped the seer while he was traveling to Maharashtra from Bankapura in Karnataka.
Following the filing of a complaint on behalf of two juveniles, the Mysuru city police later filed an FIR against the seer. He was detained in accordance with the POCSO Act’s provisions protecting children from sexual offenses.

Who Is Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru?
Dr. Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru is the present pontiff of the Murugh Math, located in Chitradurga, Karnataka. He has been in the news because he was recently detained for sexually assaulting minors.
He was born on April 11th, 1958 in Godabanahal, a hamlet close to Chitradurga.
He attended school in Chitradurga and earned his graduate degree from the University of Mysore exclusively here.
On January 31, 1991, he was crowned on the Holy Throne as Sri Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Swamiji’s successor.
He belonged to the Lingayat community, which dominates state politics. Basavaraj Bommai, the current chief minister of Karnataka, and BS Yediyurappa, his predecessor, are both members of this sect, which is thought to be particularly prevalent in northern Karnataka.
He holds a unique place of reverence inside the Math since he is the Chitradurga Special Priest of the powerful Lingayat Math.
Presently, he is 31 years old.
Case Against Him
The “Odanadi Seva Samsthe” NGO in Mysuru, which works for the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and empowerment of trafficked and sexually exploited women and children, was contacted by two girls attending a school operated by the Lingayat Mutt headed by Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru.
After they described their trauma to the NGO, the district children’s welfare committee was informed, and as a result, the police opened an investigation.
Following a report by a District Child Protection Unit officer, an FIR was later filed against five individuals, including the warden of the mutt’s dormitory. The girls, 15 and 16, who were sleeping at the hostel run by the Mutt, allegedly endured sexual abuse for more than three and a half years.
At the Mutt earlier in the day, Shivamurthy addressed the sizable gathering of devotees and declared that he would not flee and that he was confident he would be exonerated of all allegations.
