Who Was Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed?
From 2004 until 2022, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan served as President of the United Arab Emirates, ruler of Abu Dhabi, and supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces. From the late 1980s to the present, he served as Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council.
He was born on September 7, 1948, in Al Ain’s Qasr Al-Muwaiji in Abu Dhabi and died aged 73.
His father’s name is Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his mother’s name isย Hassa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Sultan, Mohammed, Shamma, Salama, Osha, Sheikha, Lateefa, and Mouza were his eight children with Shamsa bint Suhail Al Mazrouei.
He was a Royal Military Academy Sandhurst graduate.
His Career
Khalifa initially became involved in politics and governance in 1966, when his father, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, appointed him as the mayor of Abu Dhabi’s Eastern Region at the age of 18.
He was the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and the chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Petroleum Council, which determines oil policy, before becoming president.
Sheikh Khalifa became the UAE’s second president in 2004, replacing his father, Sheikh Zayed al Nahyan, who founded the country.
He led the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the world’s largest investment funds, which manages hundreds of billions of dollars in assets.
After the UAE government rescued Dubai out of its debt, one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers, the Burj Khalifa, was named after him. As a sports lover, he sponsored the purchase of the English Premier League soccer team Manchester City.
Death Cause Of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed
Since suffering a stroke and undergoing surgery in 2014, Sheikh Khalifa’s position has been mostly ceremonial. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, his brother and Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, is largely seen as the UAE’s de-facto leader, administering the Gulf state’s day-to-day affairs.
His death causeย has yet to be determined, however, it is believed that he died while battling his long-term health issues.
Mohammed bin Zayed is anticipated to claim the presidency and take over from him.
