Shakur Stevenson vs Jamel Herring match details, score and result
Absolute class from Stevenson who was a beast in the ring. The 24-year old (17-0, 9 KO) dominated Herring throughout with his impressive speed, skill and style of fighting which was way too much for the latter (23-3, 11 KO) to handle. Herring’s title reign which was of just 2-and a half years ended after this defeat. Herring did make continuous efforts to move forward and take on Stevenson on the inside, but the 24-year old was obviously too fast for the veteran. Not just that, Stevenson faced no difficulties at all in defending himself on the inside every time Herring tried to.
Herring had taken quite a beating as he had swelling for much of the fight, which is the doctor took a look at his cut after the 9th round. In the 10th round, Stevenson played clean with his shots and that was when referee Mark Nelson decided to end the bout. At the time of stoppage, the scores were 89-82, 90-81, and again 90-81 for Stevenson. Bad Left Hook had it barely closer at 88-83 for Stevenson.
This is what Stevenson said after the fight to ESPN, “I feel like Jamel Herring is a great fighter. He’s tough. He’s real tough, he’s got great boxing skills, he’s got great power. I was just the better man tonight.”
