Shakib Al Hasan Injury Update, News, Report And Return Date
Al-Hasan had picked up the injury during the match on Friday and his absence for the rest of the tournament comes as a big blow to the stomach for the Tigers’ squad and fans. The all-rounder injured his left leg hamstring and after being put under a 48-hour observation period, the medical staff of the team made a decision to exclude Shakib for the rest of the competition.
“Shakib sustained a left- lower hamstring strain while fielding during the match against the West Indies,” said Doctor Debashis Chowdhury . He further added, “In a clinical examination, it was diagnosed as an injury of Grade 1 intensity. He is ruled out from participation in the last two matches of the tournament and until further review.”
About Shakib’s replacement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board made it clear that it would not call up a replacement for the 34-year old star all- rounder. Tough luck Tigers! Even though they will not advance to the semi-finals, Bangladesh will play their last two matches for pride against South Africa and New Zealand on 1st November and 4th November respectively.
Shakib-Al-Hasan’s run at ICC T20 World Cup 2021
It might not have been entirely fruitful for his team, but on an individual level, Shakib had an excellent run at the tournament. He earned the title of the highest-wicket taker in T20 World Cup history when he bowled Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando against Sri Lanka. The star all- rounder managed to take a total of 40 wickets in this competition, eventually surpassing Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi who captained his team to winning the trophy back in 2009.
Not just that, Shakib was also the most successful wicket-taker in T20 International when he sent out Scotland’s Michael Leask for a duck. Breaking Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga’s record, Al-Hasan has 108 scalps to his name. Unfortunately, the Bangladesh team will have to try to give it their all to win their last two matches in the tournament for Shakib, who will be cheering his team from the bench.
