Satish wasn’t interested in sports nor did he have any awareness about boxing. All Satish ever wanted to do in his life is to serve in the Army like his elder brother is presently doing. In the year 2008 Kumar joined the Army of India as a Sepoy after moving to Ranikhet which is 300 km from Bulandshahr. One year later, the coaches at the boxing camp spotted him because of his height of 6’2 feet and seek Satish to try his hands on boxing.
On the convincing of the coaches, Satish Kumar decided to follow boxing. He was selected by the coaches in the camp only based on his height and his life started to change since the day he took up the boxing sport.

He made his international boxing debut for India at the World Championships of the year 2013. But Satish lost in the quarterfinals of the 91kg Super Heavyweight after he was announced ‘unfit’ because of the cut above his right eye.
Satish won his first international medal by bagging a Bronze medal in the Super Heavyweight semi-final event at the Asian Games of the year 2014 held in Icheon, South Korea. In the year 2015, he won another Bronze medal in Super Heavyweight at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Bangkok.
At the Asian Boxing Championships of the year 2019, Satish Kumar again achieved the Bronze medal in the 91kg Super Heavyweight event.
Satish has marked his Olympics debut at the Tokyo Olympics in July-August in 2021. Satish Kumar first has now become the first boxer from India to compete in the 91kg Super Heavyweight Event after Kumar wins the Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifiers by beating up Kazakhstan’s Otgonbayer Daivii.
