Sakina Khatun was honored among 9 other women achievers at the BREW awards of the year 2016 organized by The Brew Magazine. This event was organized in Chennai on the occasion of International Women’s Day of 2016. Sakina Khatun was born on June 20th in the year 1989 in Bangalore, Karnataka, and is an Indian powerlifter.

Sakina Khatun Biography, Life Story, Personal Life And Disability

Sakina Khatun was infected with polio when she was very young. Sakina’s father worked as a marginal farmer and her family faced many difficulties and has gone through a major financial crisis. Sakina Khatun was passionate and deeply concerned about sports from a very young age. This passion of her pushed Khatun to continue her journey towards the sport.

She, unfortunately, had to undergo 4 surgeries because of her bad health conditions and to survive polio. As swimming helps out to strengthen most muscles in the body, Khatun was recommended by the doctors to take up swimming. Swimming helped her to recover faster than other medical procedures.

She contracted polio when she was an infant and this disease made her health quite fragile. Later on, Khatun overcame polio and decided to try her luck in weight lifting.

Sakina Khatun Professional Weightlifting Career

Sakina Khatun studied at the Kabiriya High School. Sakina began her training in powerlifting after completion of her 12th in the year 2010. Her training sessions would start in the morning and would last for two hours daily.

Sakina Khatun would again train for two hours in the evening for hard practice for the game as she always wanted to be the best in her own way.

Paralympian Sakina Khatun Medals, Awards And Achievements

Sakina Khatun is one of the only Indian female Para athletes in Indian history to achieve a medal at the Commonwealth Games. She won a bronze medal at the 2014 event held at Glasgow. Also, she bagged a Silver Medal in the 2018 Asian Para Games and stood at Sixth position at the 2019 World Championships.
