Though India’s Navdeep Singh’s silver medal was upgraded to gold, he was later disqualified for breaking the rules and lost out on the gold. Short-statured athletes are placed in the F41 category.
“World Para Athletics (WPA) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and conduct in the sport of Para athletics. All participants in the sport, including athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators, have a responsibility to uphold these standards and ensure that the sport is conducted in a fair manner,” WPA stated.
Because the reasoning behind the decision is still unknown, the topic is still the focus of significant discussion within the sporting world.
Due to a breach of World Para Athletics Rules and Regulations, Rule 8.1, Sadegh Beit Sayah, Iranian javelin thrower was disqualified.
The precise reason behind Sadegh Beit Sayah’s disqualification has not been disclosed by the Paris Paralympic committee. Fans, however, have conjectured that the Iranian javelin thrower’s disqualification may have resulted from his act of flying a black banner during the tournament with red Arabic inscription on it.
While some have linked the black flag to terrorist organisation ISIS, others branded the decision “profoundly unfair and immoral”, with one arguing: “It is a banner commemorating a Shia Muslim historical figure. It isn’t an ISIS or Hamas flag. It’s not even a flag. It’s a banner.”
His flag allegedly honored a significant religious figure, Hazrate Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He received his first yellow card for a celebration deemed as unsportsman like conduct and his second yellow and subsequently a red card was having violated Paralympic code by brandishing a non-state flag and he was stripped of his medal.
Meanwhile, following his fourth-place result in Tokyo, India’s Navdeep had a redemption story in the crammed Stade de France. Navdeep, who started his campaign in the final with a poor try, finished second out of the six competitors. He was unable to break the momentum and went over the line, leading to a foul attempt.
With a tremendous throw of 47.32 meters on his third try, Navdeep went deep and shattered the Paralympic record, taking the top rank.
The gold medal of Sadegh Beit Sayah was disqualified due to two incidents during the competition:
* Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Beit Sayah made a celebratory cheer that the referee interpreted as unsportsmanlike. This resulted in a yellow card.
