Despite having never won an IPL trophy, RCB are arguably the most popular franchise due to the presence of superstars like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle in their squad over the years.
They have however managed to reach the IPL finals thrice in once in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 2023 net worth
Back in 2008, Vijay Mallya purchased the RCB franchise for a price of 111.6 USD, which was the second-highest bid after Mumbai Indians at that time. Currently, in 2023, RCB is the third-richest franchise in the IPL with a net worth of around INR 697 crores.
RCB income sources
RCB has several sources of income including media rights, sponsorships, stadium ticket sales, merchandise sales (T-shirts), and prize money. Given below are each of the different income sources of the franchise:
Media rights
The BCCI, which oversees all cricket activities in India, receives massive amounts of income by selling the media rights of the IPL to satellite partners Star Sports and the OTT platform Jio Cinema.
The BCCI shares a guaranteed 40-50% of the media rights with all of the 10 franchises in the IPL. Following a new cycle agreement for the 2023-27 period RCB’s income from this mode will likely increase even more.
Sponsorships
RCB just recently signed a record-breaking three-year title sponsorship deal in 2023 worth 75 Crores with Qatar Airways. Besides that, RCB have sponsorship deals with Reliance Jio since the 2018 IPL edition. Aside from those two major brands, RCB have KEI and Happilo as principal partners.
RCB also has various associate sponsors with brands like PUMA, Hindware Italian collection, Equitas, BOAT, Mahindra, and Nippon Paints.
Stadium tickets
Generally, RCB earn a lot of income through the sales of tickets at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. RCB supporters often turn up in huge numbers to watch their home games. As such, the franchise makes the most of this and they also sell gate passes aside from tickets.
According to the guidelines set by the BCCI, franchise owners have the right to set the value of ticket prices. Team owners usually get 80% of the shares from ticket sales while the BCCI gets only the remaining 20%. Currently, ticket prices of IPL 2023 range from between ₹2405 to ₹42,350 at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Merchandise sales
RCB earns a decent amount through merchandise sales also. Everyone has access to buy T-shirts, shorts, Caps, shoes, etc. from RCB online store. RCB franchise also stitched a strategic partnership with Puma in 2021 which has helped franchise owners to earn more as their access makes it easy for their supporters to buy team merchandise across the country. RCB also partners with Status Quo, which has helped them to enter the lifestyle business as well.
Prize money
Aside from the above sources of income, all the ten franchises also get to win prize money based on their final IPL standings every year. Although the RCB have never won the IPL title, the franchise has so far won huge prize money winnings over the years:
Given below are their prize money winnings for finishing as the runners up on three occasions:
- ₹2.4 Cr for being runners-up in IPL 2009
- ₹5 Cr for being runners-up in IPL 2011
- ₹11 Cr for being runners-up in the IPL 2016
Amongst all the various sources, the income from prize money is the least income stream.
