World Cup champion Roger Binny was chosen on Tuesday to serve as the 36th president of the BCCI, succeeding Sourav Ganguly as head of the richest cricket organisation in the world. At the AGM (Annual General Meeting) held here, Binny, 67, was chosen without opposition alongside Jay Shah, who was re-elected to serve as secretary for a second consecutive term.

Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, joint secretary Devjit Saikia, and Treasurer Ashish Shelar were among the other office holders who were unopposedly elected. Before the ODI World Cup in India the following year, Binny, who represented India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, assumes leadership.

Binny will be paid Rs.5 crore per year during his 3 year tenure with his current net worth between Rs.20-30 crore.

Who will lead the International Cricket Council (ICC)?

There was no discussion of whose turn it was to lead the International Cricket Council (ICC). The new ICC chairman will be chosen at the upcoming board meeting in Melbourne.

According to a state unit official who attended the AGM, only the topics on the agenda were discussed; the ICC presidency was not. The official informed PTI that the decision about who would represent India at the ICC would be made by the office-holders. It’s unlikely that the BCCI will put out its own candidate for the position given the ICC chairman nomination deadline of October 20.

Roger Binny was named the new president of India’s leading cricket organisation on Tuesday, and Sourav Ganguly, the outgoing BCCI president and a great figure in cricket, has remarked on the nomination. For three years, Ganguly, one of his generation’s top batters, ruled over the BCCI board. At the BCCI’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai, former Team India cricketer Binny officially succeeded Ganguly in the role of organisation president.

Sourav Ganguly sent Roger Binny, the recently elected president of the BCCI, his best wishes and noted that the new office holders are dedicated to carrying on the legacy.
