Richard Dove Williams was born to Julia Mae Metcalf and Richard Dove Williams Sr. on February 14th, 1942 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Williams Jr. was one of 5 children and was the only son to his parents. His four younger sisters are Pat, Barbara, Penny and Faye. Having lived on East 79th street near railroad tracks for quite some time, the Williams family moved to Saginaw, Michigan after Richard completed his graduation.

Williams began to learn all about tennis from a man known as “Old Whiskey”. It was when he watched Virginia Ruzici play the sport and earn a hefty cash prize for winning a tennis match that Williams decided his daughters Venus and Serena would become tennis players. He wrote up an 85-page schedule/plan for his two daughters to follow and started to give them coaching lessons when they were only four and a half.
Williams took his daughters to public tennis courts to play and a short while later he made them participate in Shreveport tennis tournaments. But in 1995, the man decided to coach Venus and Serena himself after getting them out of a tennis academy.
Under Richard Williams Jr., Venus and Serena have won a total of 128 Singles titles (49 by Venus and 73 by Serena) and 28 Doubles titles (21 (S-V)-2 (V)-5(S). Serena had won the US Open in 1999 whereas her sister Venus defeated Lindsay Davenport to clench the Wimbledon title in 2000.

Richard Williams: Life, Marriages And Health
Married three times, Williams has 5 children with his first wife Betty Johnson who he married in 1965- Sabrina, Richard III, Ronner, Reluss and Reneeka, all grew up with Betty’s other sister Katrina. They got divorced in 1973.
He then got married to Oracene “Brandy” Price (mother of Serena and Venus) in 1980 and the family resided in Compton, California. The couple eventually got divorced in 2002.
After he got divorced to Oracene, Richard tied the knot with his girlfriend Lakeisha Juanita Graham in 2010 and welcomed their son Dylan 2 years later in 2012. This marriage also lasted only up till 2017. Williams’ other children include son Chavoita LeSane. After a while, the man started taking interest in other fields like photography and was not that much involved in his daughters’ tennis careers.
His health deteriorated after he suffered a stroke in 2016. Even though Williams was stabilised at the time, he has suffered continuous strokes since then.
