Virat Kohli had assiduously worked to ensure Anil Kumble was removed as the head coach of Team India with the controversy resurfacing as Kohli vs BCCI heats up
For someone who is way too eager to blown his own horn and claim all he does is for the betterment of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli is doing everything to ensure he slanders and besmirches Indian cricket and the BCCI.
Unceremonious after being stripped of the ODI captaincy as the governing council decided it was time to usher in a new era ensuing the debacle which unfurled at the bygone T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli embarked on a tirade against the BCCI during a recent press conference. He went onto talk about how he had been called by the selectors who 90 minutes later went onto tell him that he was no longer in charge of the ODI set up as captain with IPL proved Rohit Sharma instead being handed over charge of the team.

Kohli also rebutted Sourav Ganguly’s claim of him being implored to not step down at the T20 captain. The entire presser has seen a gargantuan brouhaha erupt with one senior BCCI source revealing to PTI that the BCCI was refraining from countering Kohli to mantain the morale of the Indian team come the South Africa vs India series.
While Kohli was drowning in his misery, he conveniently decided to erase memory of the role he had played in Anil Kumble’s ouster as head coach of the Indian team. Kumble and Kohli were at loggerheads during the legendary Indian spinner’s time as the coach of the side Kumble resining in June 2017 despite losing just one of the 17 test matches he was a coach in.
“[The] captain had reservations with my ‘style’ and about my continuing as the head coach. The partnership was untenable,” Kumble had said at the time.
Ensuing him leaving his role, a leaked email between two top BCCI officials came to light, one which went onto detail the lengths to which Kohli had gone to ensure Kumble was removed. The email suggested captain Virat Kohli played a significant role in Kumble’s ouster and had frequently worked behind the scenes against him along with sending messages to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri.
An email between Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji and CoA chief Vinod Rai where she said, “Virat Kohli frequently sent SMSs to the CEO on which you acted and there was a change in the coach.”
“Mr Kumble a legend in his own right was subjected to loss of face and made to look like a villain. He was gracious enough to move on for which I respect him. There also, rules were broken and I had raised objections back then,” she had continued with her furthering talking about how rules were bent to make Ravi Shastri the new coach.
Kohli’s complete shunning of Ravi Ashwin during India’s tour of England in 2021 earlier this year had also left cricket aficionados perturbed with Ashwin’s guile and trickery well documented.
