Despite having a promising career in football with hopes of playing in the NFL one day, Reed Ryan’s journey was recently cut short after he passed away suddenly.
Reed Ryan passes away
According to reports, Reed Ryan passed away after passing out during a workout session. The incident took place on November 21, at the school gym. According to his family, school officials performed CPR when Reed passed out. Officials managed to regain his pulse and immediately took him to the hospital, where they put him in the ICU. However, he passed away on November 28, 2023, after staying there for a week. Following his death, the University of Minnesota Duluth’s head coach Curt Wiese expressed his grief by stating:
Our staff and players are devastated about Reed’s passing… Reed aspired to be better every day at whatever task was at hand. He helped bring out the best in others with his positive attitude… We were fortunate to have Reed on our team… Reed will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on forever… He was the epitome of a UMD Bulldog, and what we can all aspire to be.”

Reed Ryan was a college football player who was born in 2000. He played as a defensive lineman for the University of Minnesota Duluth before he tragically passed away on November 28, 2023.

Reed was just 22 years old at the time of his passing and stood at a height of 6 feet 3 inches.
Cause of death
Reed Ryan’s cause of death was a cardiac arrest. According to his family, he had “an undetected genetic heart condition and a large, loving heart.”

Reed Ryan started out his football journey at a very young age when he began playing during his time at Waunakee High School in Wisconsin. While playing there, he managed to impress everyone with his talents and even became the State of Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Year. Ryan scored a total of 147 tackles and 34 sacks during his high school career.
After graduating from high school in 2019, he joined North Dakota State University, where he played there for 4 years. He then made a transfer to the University of Minnesota Duluth earlier this year. According to reports, Reed Ryan was pursuing a double major in Marketing and Professional Sales prior to his death. Ryan scored seven tackles and one sack in nine games during his one year with the UMD Bulldogs.
