Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s injury to his right knee has forced Team India to abandon their 2022 Asia Cup campaign, dealing a severe blow to their hopes for the competition. In the 15-man Indian squad, Axar Patel, who was listed as a standby, will replace Jadeja.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jadeja is being watched over by the board’s medical staff. Axar will shortly join the team in Dubai. In their first Super 4 encounter on Sunday (September 4), India will take on Pakistan in Dubai.
Massive blow to Indian cricket team
India has won both of its group stage games thanks in large part to Jadeja. Jadeja contributed a crucial knock of 35 in 29 balls during the match against Pakistan to assist the Men in Blue win in a tense last-over situation.
Jadeja’s economical bowling performance against Hong Kong, during which he conceded only 15 runs in four overs, meant that the associate country had no opportunity of pulling a surprise. With 23 victories under his belt, he also broke the record for most wickets in an Asia Cup for India.
Jadeja has been going through a lot of injuries.
The latest in a string of ailments that have plagued Jadeja recently is this wound. Due to a knee problem, the seasoned all-rounder also missed India’s ODI series against the West Indies in July. Whether this is the same injury or a fresh one has not been clarified by the BCCI.
The Chennai Super Kings player Jadeja’s 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season was cut short early due to a rib ailment. He had previously missed India’s home series against West Indies and their away visit to South Africa due to a torn ligament.
When India begins their Super 4 campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, September 4, they will be the next team to compete in the continental championship event.
