Latest Updates about Jadeja’s Injury, His Replacement, And List of Absentees for India

Axar Patel was selected for India’s starting XI for the opening ODI in Port of Spain in place of Jadeja. In the team’s three ODI matches earlier this month against England, Jadeja had participated for India. As Shikhar Dhawan’s deputy captain, Ravindra Jadeja has been chosen by the selection committee. However, middle order hitter Shreyas Iyer will perform his duties in his place.

At the Queen’s Park Oval earlier on Friday, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran chose to bowl after winning the toss. This is Dhawan’s first time leading India since the team’s tour of Sri Lanka last year, when the opener similarly captained a team that was mostly made up of backup players in ODIs and T20Is. Rohit Sharma is not playing in the ODI series, hence Shikhar Dhawan is the team’s captain. For the three-game series against the West Indies, a number of first-team stars, including Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah, have also been rested in addition to Rohit. The T20Is in the Caribbean will also be missed by Kohli and Bumrah.
