Rapper Werenoi, the number one in album sales in France in 2023 and 2024, has died at the age of 31, his producer announced. He died on 16 May, 2025 of heart failure after which health worsened with him failing to recover despite being rushed to the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital in Paris.
The artist, who performed at the Zenith in Toulouse on December 4th, was one of the most commercially successful rappers in France over the past two years and reached number one in sales in 2023 for his album “Carré,” then in 2024 for “Pyramide,” beating out artists like Indochine, Pierre Garnier, and Jul.
His latest album, “Diamant Noir,” released a few months ago, reached number one in the charts.
Werenoi, a 31-year-old French rapper, was taken to the hospital but tragically passed sometime later. Werenoi, whose true name is Jeremy Bana Owana, was confirmed dead by his producer Babs, according to local media.
Werenoi, whose real name is Jeremy Bana Owona, is a French rapper of Cameroonian descent born on January 30, 1994 in a Christian family but his height isn’t known. He was born in Melun France and died due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 31.
Details about his family members and relationship status aren’t known though with him being extremely private.

His producers Babs announced the news by writing, “Rest in peace my brother I love you!!!” French music news outlet chartsinfrance.net reported the rapper was hospitalised after going into cardio-respiratory arrest.
One user wrote, “Rest in peace the goat one of the best gone too soon courage to the family.” Another added: “It reminds us that all this money, this life, this luxury – well the day we are no longer there is nothing, let’s make the most of life may God protect you all.”
31-year-old Werenoi was born on 30 January 1994.
Since Werenoi rarely talked about himself or his family, nothing is known about his personal life. It is known that he was raised in a Cameroonian household in Montreuil.

Werenoi career
Under the moniker We Renoi, Werenoi released his debut single, “Guadalajara,” in February 2021. A number of other singles, such as “Señor de los Gallos” with Lacrim, were released during the year. Werenoi announced the release of his first official project, Telegram, a 12-track EP that was released on June 3 of the same year, after signing a contract with the label AllPoints France in May 2022.
A few months later, it was re-released with two new tracks, one of which was co-written with rapper Ninho. While the song “Solitaire” that was featured on Telegram received a diamond certification, Telegram itself received a gold certification.
In homage to the release date of his debut studio album, Carré, he released the freestyle “10.03.2023” on February 23, 2023. With over 18,000 copies sold in its first week, the album, which included rappers PLK, Ninho, Tiakola, and Lacrim, was a success.[8] In 2023, Carré became the best-selling album in France, surpassing the output of well-known musicians like Hamza and Ninho. Werenoi’s current project, the EP Telegram 2, was revealed the day before it was released on September 22, 2023.
Pyramide, his second album, which featured collaborations with Damso, SDM, Aya Nakamura, Hamza, Maes, and SCH, was released on February 16, 2024.
Werenoi had over 6.7 million Spotify listeners per month.
