In the final at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, Madhya Pradesh defeated tournament giants Mumbai by six wickets to win their first Ranji Trophy championship. In the 108-run chase, Rajat Patidar scored the winning runs for Madhya Pradesh, helping the team to a convincing victory.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh reached their first tournament final since the 1998–99 edition after defeating Bengal by 174 runs in the first semi–final. Mumbai advanced to the final on the strength of its first-innings advantage in the second semi-final between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh, which was drawn.

Mumbai scored 374 in the first innings thanks to a spectacular century from Sarfaraz Khan. As Dubey, Sharma, and Patidar hammered centuries to put their team in a commanding position, the Aditya Shrivastava-led team replied forcefully with the bat and recorded a massive 536. Suved Parker (51) and Sarfaraz Khan, who scored a century in the first innings, were the leading scorers in the morning session of day five as 41-time winners Mumbai were bowled out for 269 runs. MP needed to chase a target of 108 throughout the course of two sessions.
MP batsmen easily got home for the loss of four wickets while chasing a meagre goal of 108 runs. Rajat Patidar, who garnered attention for scoring a century for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2022, aptly hit the winning runs for his team at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Ranji Trophy 2021-22 Prize Money, Top Run-Scorer, And Best Bowler Award
The BCCI awarded the victorious team, Madhya Pradesh, a renowned trophy and prize money totaling Rs 2 crore. Mumbai, which placed second in the competition, received Rs 1 crore in prize money from the BCCI. Shubham Sharma won the Player of the Match Award for his superb performance in the final while tournament top scorer Sarfaraz Khan received Player of the Tournament Award.
Sarfaraz Khan finished Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season as the top-scorer with 982 runs while fellow teammate Shams Mulani finished the tournament as the top wicket taker with 45 wickets.
