Lal Chand Kataruchak got elected as an MLA in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election. The AAP gained a strong 79% majority in the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly by having 92 out of 117 seats in the Punjab Legislative Assembly election held in 2022.
MP Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as Chief Minister on the 16th of March 2022. Kataruchakk later represented the Bhoa Assembly constituency of the Punjab Legislative Assembly and took oath as a cabinet minister along with nine other MLAs on the 19th of March.

On 28th of April 2023, Kataruchakk came into the limelight when Congress sitting MLA from Bholath constituency Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a press conference at Jalandhar, accused him of appointing his son and other 2 relatives including son of his sister-in-law as personal staff.
Lal Chand denied all allegations while drawing flakes from all opposition parties such as BJP.
