Pope Benedict XVI was born 16th of April in 1927 and unfortunately died on the 31st of December 2022, know his cause of death
He passed away at the age of 95 years old.
Pope Benedict XVI was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of Vatican City State from the 19th of April in 2005 until his resignation took place on the 28th of February in 2013. Benedict’s election as pope Benedict occurred in the 2005 papal conclave which followed the death of Pope John Paul II. He chose to be well known by the title “pope emeritus” upon his resignation.

Being a priest in 1951 in his native Bavaria, Pope Benedict XVI embarked on an academic career and had established himself as a highly regarded theologian by the late 1950s. Pope Benedict was appointed as a full-time professor in 1958 at the age of 31 years. After a long career as a professor of theology at a number of German universities, Pope was appointed as Archbishop of Munich and Freising and made a cardinal by Pope Paul VI in early 1977, an unusual promotion for someone with little pastoral experience.
In 1981, the Pope was appointed as the Prefect of the Congregation for Doctrine of Faith, which is one of the most important dicasteries of Roman Curia. From 2002 until his election as Pope, he was also the Dean of the College of Cardinals. He always considered Church as his priority and gave people direction as well. He lived in Rome from 1981 until his death in 2022.
Pope Benedict XVI, born Joseph Ratzinger, died on December 31 at the age of 95 but no cause of death was released. Ratzinger’s life was remarkable not just because he was elevated to the highest position in the Catholic Church, but also because he chose to leave it after just 8 years.
Pope Benedict had ill health in recent years and he previously suffered a mild stroke in 2005. He retired in 2013.

- The asteroid 8661 Ratzinger was considered in his honor for the role played in supervising the opening of Vatican archives in 1998, researchers investigating judicial errors against Galileo and other medieval scientists. The name was proposed by the asteroid’s first discoverers, L. D. Schmadel and F. Borngen at Tautenburg.
