Steven Schumacher’s departure from Plymouth Argyle for Stoke City has made the front-runners odds for the position of the next new manager apparent

The 39-year-old left the Pilgrims for Stoke City, a team in the Championship, after agreeing to a compensation package with Argyle, who are currently searching for new management. Alex Neil, who was fired by the Potters on December 10th, is replaced by Schumacher.

Plymouth statement

“Argyle can confirm that Steven Schumacher departed the team to take advantage of a fresh opportunity with Stoke City, a rival in the Sky Bet Championship. After four and a half years with the team, Schumacher decided to leave. The club stated that Schumacher will be remembered as an Argyle great for leading one of the best seasons in the team’s history.

“The 39-year-old managed Argyle to victory in Sky Bet League One the previous season and has guided the team to a strong start in the Championship, now occupying 16th place. Now, despite their disappointment, Chairman Simon Hallett and the Argyle Board have sent their best regards to the departing manager, Schumacher, as he heads for the Potteries.”

Stoke City statement

Stoke City has named Steven Schumacher as their new head coach. “We are thrilled to welcome Steven, who we firmly believe to be one of the most exciting young coaches in the country, to Stoke City,” chairman John Coates stated.

The individual who led Plymouth Argyle to Championship promotion the previous year has committed to a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Potters. At the Bet365 Stadium, Darren Behcet, the goalkeeper coach, assistant head coach Mark Hughes, and first-team coach Peter Cavanagh will be joining him.

Schumacher, who won League One Manager of the Year the previous season, guided Argyle to promotion as champions after the team just missed the playoffs the year before. They won 31 of 46 league games, finished with 101 points, and scored 86 goals during their successful 22–23 campaign.
