Three-time reigning Norway Chess Tournament champion Magnus Carlsen will be looking to defend his throne in the classical tournament of 2022 Norway Chess. Earlier in the Blitz tournament, USA Grandmaster Wesley So claimed the title ahead of Carlsen and former world champion Viswanathan Anand.

History of Norway Chess and All Edition Details
Norway Chess is an annual closed chess tournament that takes place in the months of May and June each year. The first edition took held from 7 to 18 May 2013 in the Stavanger area of Norway. Ten players competed in the 2013 event, including seven of the top ten rated players in the world according to the May 2013 FIDE World Rankings. Sergey Karjakin took first place, with Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura tying for second.
Norway Chess 2015 was part of the inaugural Grand Chess Tour and took held in mid-June 2015. Since then, the tournament has elected to drop off of the Grand Chess Tour.

Norway Chess Format Change History, Reception by Players, And Armageddon Game
In 2019, the competition took the hazardous yet thrilling step of slightly altering the game format. This wasn’t simple because the organizers had no idea how it would work in practice, and chess is a game steeped in history. After talking with professional players, they decided it was worthwhile to give it a shot. Time limits are substantially shorter in Armageddon, and the games’ outcomes are always decisive.
Players who drew in the traditional game format would have to proceed into an Armageddon game. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, both from gamers and chess professionals. FIDE’s President, Arkady Dvorkovich, has even declared that they are keeping a careful eye on the exciting new format.
