Niranjan Mukundan was born on September 4th in the year 1994. He is an Indian para swimmer. He was titled the Junior World Champion in the year 2015. Niranjan Mukundan belongs to Bangalore. Niranjan Mukundan studied at Jain University in Bangalore.
His father and mother both were working when Niranjan was growing. His father worked independently as a consultant whereas his mother was employed in a corporate firm.
Niranjan Mukundan Disability
Niranjan Mukundan was born with a disability of the spine, Spina Bifida. Under this disability, the spine is not developed properly and in Mukundan’s case, he had clubfoot as well. To date, Niranjan has undergone more than 19 surgeries.
Niranjan Mukundan Swimming Career
In the year 2012 Niranjan Mukundan had a fruitful year at the national swimming championship held in Chennai. Mukundan achieved back to back three gold medals, and one silver medal in swimming, and one bronze in the water polo.
Mukundan later became the world’s number 17 ranked. In the 13th Para national swimming championship held in Bangalore Niranjan played his best and achieved one gold medal, a silver medal, and two bronze medals consecutively. During the 2014 IWAS World Junior Games held at U. K. Niranjan Mukundan achieved a total of eight medals in which three were gold, two were silver, and three were bronze medals.
In 2016 at the IWAS Junior World Games held in Prague, Czech Republic, Niranjan Mukundan bagged eight medals. He was honored to have the athletes’ oath in front of his competitors, this moment was really remarkable.
Niranjan Mukundan Achievements And Awards
Niranjan Mukundan received many achievements year by year; he was honored with Ekalavya Award in the year 2016. Also, he has received the National Award for Best Sportsperson of the Year in 2015 by the Indian Government. He has received the Achiever’s Award from Dr. Chenraj Roychand, the founding Chairman of JGI Group, in the year 2015.
Niranjan Mukundan bagged his first international achievement, a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle swimming held at the IDM German Swimming Championship in Berlin. In the year 2013, he won many more international medals. At the IWAS World Junior Games held in Puerto Rico he conquered two silver medals in 100m freestyle and butterfly with two bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle race.
