Netflix has announced the documentary on German Formula 1 driver and 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher to air on September 15, 2021

Michael Schumacher is the prime subject of a new documentary by OTT platform Netflix that will provide insights about multilayered Schumacher from the family members and some old competitors. The documentary “SCHUMACHER” will feature interviews and old archived footage of team principals and other drivers.

The documentary has a release date of September 15, just over 30 years after Michael Schumacher made his F1 debut in Belgium. Therefore, the documentary is produced by Benjamin Seikel and directed by Vanessa Nocker who made the documentary on German tennis legend Boris Becker.

Cast

The cast of the documentary is the family members such as wife Corinna Schumacher and their two children Gina and Mick. In addition, brother Ralf, former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo, FIA chief Jean Todt, former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone alongside F1 drivers Mika Hakkinen, Sebastian Vettel, Damon Hill, and David Coulthard also feature in the documentary.

Michael Schumacher started karting at the age of 4 and made his Formula 1 debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix for team Jordan-Ford. After his wonderful drive at the Spa-Francorchamps, Jordan-Ford had an agreement on principal with Schumacher, However, Benneton swooped in with a better offer to lure the future World Champion away from Jordan-Ford.

1994–1995: World Championship years

His first Championship win came in 1994 which was very controversial as it came down to the final race of the calendar at the Australian Grand Prix where he led Damon Hill by just one point and both the drivers crashed into each other on lap 36 causing the retirement of both the cars. As a result, Michael Schumacher won his first World Championship by a single point over Damon Hill.

In 1995, he guided Benetton to their first-ever Constructor’s Championship Alongside teammate Johnny Herbert. He successfully defended his title against the runner-up Damon Hill who lost by the accumulated margin of 33 points.

1996-2006: 5 Consecutive Championships

Ferrari quickly recognized his potential to push the car to any extent not caring about the outcome of handling those big machines. Schumacher finished third in his first season with Ferrari winning 3 Grand Prix’s and 8 podium finishes.

The peak of his career came in 2000, from where the Schumacher era in the Formula 1 began in which both Ferrari and Michael Schumacher enjoyed 5 consecutive World Championships performing way beyond extraordinary.

After massive success with Ferrari, Michael Schumacher retired from the sport in 2006 after the FIA brought in the new tyre rules to disrupt the Ferrari dominance in the Championship.

2010-2012: Return to F1

Michael Schumacher returned to Formula 1 in 2010, this time behind the wheels of Mercedes partnering Nico Rosberg. After two seasons with Mercedes with whom he enjoyed occasional success, his seat was given to the current 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

The legendary Michael Schumacher met with an unfortunate accident in December 2013 and since then has been assumed to be in a vegetative state being in a coma for the longest time after his skiing incident.
