On March 14, director Vivek Agnihotri posted a photo on Twitter of a group of people hoisting the Indian National Flag outside a theatre in Washington, DC. They all were doing this after viewing the film Kashmir Files movie.

The late Judge Neelkanth Ganjoo’s son was photographed carrying the flag and smiling broadly. His son’s name is Vijay Ganjoo. In a tweet addressing him and Judge Ganjoo, Agnihotri remarked,

From Washington DC. The gentleman (4th from left) is swargiya Judge Neelkanth Ganjoo’s son. Indian judiciary & system never punished the terrorists who killed him in broad daylight. #TheKashmirFiles is a small step in bringing justice to Judge Ganjoo’s sacrifice.

Let me tell you that The Kashmir Files film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri is based on the real-life exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir Valley in the 1990 insurgency period. During this time many prominent Kashmiri Hindus were killed, murdered, raped, burnt and converted by Muslims and Neelkanth Ganjoo is one of them.

Neelkanth Ganjoo, a high court judge in Kashmir, was assassinated on November 4, 1989. For his heroic efforts at the time, he was ruthlessly killed. He was a famous Kashmiri Pandit and judge.

Apart from this, he is one of the famous pro-India voices from Kashmir valley. He is also known for his justice-loving personality and hatred for Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Kashmir.

He was survived by his son and wife who had already shifted out of Kashmir before his murder.

He had previously sentenced JKLF terrorist and founder Maqbool Bhat to death. Judge Ganjoo’s killing was seen as a second senior Kashmiri Pandit to be assassinated in a few weeks.

Before Ganjoo, Tika Lal Taploo, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was assassinated in September. He was the first victim of the ‘Azad Kashmir’ movement, which eventually resulted in the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley.

How Was He Killed?

When High Court Judge Neelkanth Ganjoo went to the Jammu & Kashmir Bank branch on Hari Singh Street Market in Srinagar, three JKLF terrorists shot and killed him in broad daylight at the high court in Srinagar on November 4, 1989.

He has been assassinated for his role in the Amar Chand murder trial. As of August 1968, he gave the terrorist Maqbool Bhat the death penalty as a sessions court judge.
