Originally scheduled for a 180-day mission, Rubio’s spaceflight set a new U.S. record, extending to a remarkable 371 days due to unforeseen challenges. As their first spacecraft was damaged by space debris and lost its coolant while linked to the International Space Station, a Soyuz capsule was quickly organized as a substitute for them to make their return trip.
The first capsule, thought to have been harmed by space debris, required an early return without people to avoid the possibility of the electronics overheating. The Soyuz replacement, launched in February, successfully brought Frank Rubio, along with cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin, back to Earth.
Their delayed arrival was owing to the Soyuz’s inability to send a new crew until this month. The descent, marked by over four times the force of gravity, culminated in a safe landing in the barren Kazakh steppes, with Rubio expressing gratitude and relief, stating, “It’s good to be home.”

Who is Frank Rubio?
Frank Rubio is an American astronaut. He has been in the news because he has set a new U.S. record by living in space for a remarkable 371 days.
His real name is Francisco Carlos Rubio. He was born on 11 December 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is of Salvadoran descent. He did his schooling at Miami Sunset Senior High School. Subsequently, he studied at the United States Military Academy (USMA), where he received a bachelor’s degree in international relations.
Frank Rubio is married, and his wife’s name is Deborah. The couple has four children together.
His mother Myrna Argueta currently lives in El Salvador but there is not much known about Frank Rubio’s father at the time of writing.
He is currently 47 years old. He has a net worth of $1-2 million.
His career
As a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 3rd Aviation Regiment, Frank Rubio was appointed a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He moved to medicine after logging more than 1,100 flying hours, including combat missions to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
He also worked as a flight surgeon while pursuing a doctorate from the Uniformed Services University.
After being chosen in 2017 for NASA Astronaut Group 22, Frank Rubio started a demanding training regimen. Launching on the Soyuz MS-22 in 2022, his planned 6-month mission was extended due to spacecraft damage, resulting in a record-breaking 370.6 days in space.
