Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa was born on 20th June in 1949. He has also led the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to the military defeat of the Tamil Tigers, which ended the Sri Lankan Civil War in Sri Lanka.

Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa has 9 siblings and he was born in Matara. His father D.A. Rajapaksa was a follower of Budhism. He attended the Ananda Collee in Colombo.
72 year old, Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa joined the Sri Lankan Army as being the Cadet Officer on 26th April 1971. At that time Sri Lanka was still a dominion of the British Commonwealth and was in the midst of the year 1971 JVP insurrection. By following his basic officer training at the Army Training Centre, he was commissioned as the Second Lieutenant on 26th May 1972, in the Sri Lanka Signals Corps.
Soon after this, he was sent for the signal young officer’s course at the Military College of Signals, Rawalpindi. After many regiments, Nandasena following his retirement, read for a postgraduate diploma in information technology from Colombo University and joined Informatics.
It is an IT firm based in Colombo, he joined as a Marketing Manager in 1992. He afterward migrated to the United States in 1998 and worked in the Loyola Law School based in Los Angeles, United States as a Systems Integrator and the Unix Solaris Administrator.
