Kishor Bajaj, the man who brought the first Michelin restaurant to India, breathed his last on March 17.

Kishor Bajaj was the founder of the Badasaab Group. He was a multifaceted businessman with a strategic reach in custom apparel, luxury retail abroad, and hospitality. He was a trailblazer in introducing the fine dining experience to India. Nothing has been revealed about his cause of death yet. While his DOB isn’t known, he was aged between 50-60 years.

It is apparent from those who knew Kishor Bajaj that his drive is rooted in a fundamental and finely honed sense of hospitality and genuine warmth.

The Introduction Of Michelin Restaurants In India

He was the first restaurateur to introduce the Michelin-starred restaurant Hakkasan in a standalone format to Mumbai. The restaurant offers high standards in food and service.

Soon after Hakkasan, he imported Yauatcha, a favourite tea and dim sum shop in London, to Mumbai. Being Bangkok’s go-to Thai institution, Nara offers this dynamic food in a contemporary setting, coupled with warm Thai hospitality, in the centre of BKC and Colaba. KA brought it down in 2017.

After introducing well-known international food and beverage companies to India, he started developing domestic businesses. He introduced CinCin, an Italian-themed restaurant and bar that opened in Mumbai in 2017.

Kresha Bajaj is the founder of Koëcsh and daughter of Kishor Bajaj. On March 21, a prayer meet for Kishor was held in Mumbai and many A-listers including top B-town celebs arrived to pay their respects. Saira Banu, Jackie Shroff, Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Sanjay Dutt, and more were spotted there.

His Death Came As A Shock

Since the news broke regarding his sad demise, people have begun posting happy memories of him on social media.

Foodie and writer Kunal Vijayakar shared on Instagram: “I am heartbroken to have lost my good friend Kishor. And even though he had been ill, I still find it hard to accept that he is no longer in our lives.”

Author and journalist Shobhaa De recalled their friendship from when he worked at Bada Saab. She penned on her account, “Deeply saddened! We knew Bada Saab days and kept up the friendship as Kishor soared and scaled new heights, bringing international brands to tantalise our palates with pan-Asian cuisine at its finest.”
