According to The Athletic, the Blues made a formal offer for the midfielder, but the Seagulls rejected it since they have no intention of offloading him this month.

To stave off possible suitors, they have raised his asking price to more than £75 million ($92 million), and De Zerbi predicts he will stay at Brighton at least through the summer.

Caicedo’s previous head coach Graham Potter is being sought after by Chelsea to enhance their midfield. However, the amount they offered fell well short of what would persuade Brighton to allow him to go during the January transfer window.

Caicedo enrolled in Independiente del Valle’s youth academy at the age of 13 and joined their first team in 2019. For an undisclosed sum, Caicedo signed an afour-and-a-half-yearr contract with English team Brighton & Hove Albion on February 1, 2021. Caicedo signed a season-long loan with Belgian top division team Beerschot on August 31, 2021, transfer deadline day.

Caicedo was recalled from his loan on January 12, 2022, and sent back to England since Brighton was short on centre midfielders. He was put on the bench as soon as he got back to Sussex, and he stayed there for the 1their -1 home draw against Crystal Palace on January 15th.
