The SportsGrail examines the clubs with the most championships as the Houston Astros compete in the World Series for the fourth time in six years and the winners list by years
One of the most prestigious athletic occasions, the Fall Classic attracts both ardent and casual followers. America’s game continues to thrive in the twenty-first century because of a sense of permanence, timelessness, and tradition.
MLB World Series Winners List By Year And Winner Prize Money In 2022
The competition has primarily been conducted in October ever since the Boston Americans, who eventually changed their name to the “Red Sox,” won the first modern World Series by defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 in an eight-game series. The new enlarged format would seem to make November games all but guaranteed in the future, but some have incredibly been played in September and November.
History, Origin and So Far
The original best-of-nine format was abandoned in favour of a best-of-seven series. Although it was reinstated in the years 1919, 1920, and 1921, the seven-game series has since come to be regarded as the benchmark for championships.
The 118th World Series will be played this year, and none other than the New York Yankees, the “evil empire,” are currently ranked first among winning teams. They have participated in 40 World Series and have won 27 of them. They are followed by the St. Louis Cardinals, who have made 19 appearances and won 11 titles. In the American League, the Yankees have made the most appearances, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have made the most appearances in the National League and have gone to the Fall Classic 21 times in all, losing 14 of those games.
Only one MLB team, the Seattle Mariners, has never participated in a World Series. Each team that participated—the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Milwaukee Brewers—lost.
The Astros, who represented the National League in 2005 before switching to the American League, where they won the pennant in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022, are the only team to have participated in the World Series as the champions of both leagues.
The total prize pool for the tournament announced is $102 million, MLB World Series 2022 Prize Money Break Down; Champions, $35 Million; Runners Up, $24 Million.
