Mirabai Chanu In CWG 2022
Mirabai Chanu took a six-month vacation after winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics before making a comeback in the Singapore International Weightlifting competition earlier this year. The star weightlifter qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games by winning gold in the 55kg division.
Mirabai Chanu entered the competition with a personal best in her category of 207 kg (88 kg snatch and 119 kg clean and jerk), which is greater than Stella Kingsley of Nigeria, the second-highest lifter in the competition (168 kg; 72 kg and 96 kg).
The weightlifter from India will be the overwhelming favourite to keep her title. If Mirabai Chanu won the medal which was highly anticipated, it would be a proud moment for India as Chanu has become one of the most celebrated athletes in India in recent years.
