Despite having signed a multi-year contract with Mercedes in August 2023, it is suggested that Hamilton possesses an exit clause allowing him to join Ferrari in 2025. Hamilton had been previously linked to Ferrari before officially renewing his contract with Mercedes.

In a 2022 interview, the seven-time F1 champion expressed interest in driving for the renowned Italian team, stating to Corriere della Sera, “Of course, it would be nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen because of a reason.”

While affirming his loyalty to Mercedes, he declared, “Mercedes is my family. I will always be a Mercedes driver, just like Stirling Moss.”

The odds have Sainz Jr at 6/4 to replace Hamilton, while Alex Albon has odds of 6/4 to leave Williams Racing for Mercedes.

Fernando Alonso is priced at 5/1, with Ferrari being one of the few teams the former World Champion has yet to drive for and Daniel Ricciardo is 8/1 to take Hamilton’s spot. The Australian could potentially have a future as Max Verstappen’s Red Bull team mate, but being the main man at Mercedes could tempt him away from Red Bull.

27-year-old Alpine driver Esteban Ocon is 16/1, while 17-year-old Kimi Antonelli is 25/1.

Hamilton Expected to Partner with Leclerc

If Hamilton’s move to Ferrari materializes, he is expected to partner with Charles Leclerc, who recently extended his contract with the team.

Leclerc expressed his delight, saying, “To race for this team has been my dream since I was three years old.” He spoke of his close bond with Ferrari and the shared accomplishments over the past five years, expressing optimism about future successes.

The seven-time world champion’s departure marks the end of a 25-year association with Mercedes, dating back to their time as an engine supplier for McLaren, Hamilton’s former team.

Having achieved six of his seven titles with Mercedes since joining in 2013, Hamilton has set numerous records, including the most individual race wins, pole positions, and podiums in F1 history.

While it was initially anticipated that he would conclude his career with Mercedes under a two-year contract covering 2024 and 2025, recent reports revealed that the second year was merely an option, enabling Hamilton to leave ahead of 2025.

Both Teams Confirm Transfer

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has caused ripples in the sport, with both teams confirming the transfer.

In a Mercedes press release, Hamilton acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating, “Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old,” but expressed excitement about the new challenge.

Ferrari confirmed Hamilton’s multi-year contract without divulging further details in their initial statement.
