Story Of Maa Meldi

According to ancient history, there was a demon named Amruva. To get blessed and live a mortal life, he transformed into a human and prayed to Lord Shiva to bless him. He asked Lord Shiva that he did not want to get killed by any human and wished for mortality. Lord Shiva said he can’t give mortality but he will not be killed by any human. After his wish was granted he again transformed into a demon and started spreading evil on earth with his atrocity.

To end his atrocity on earth, five goddesses were sent by Devi Paravati on earth. During the battle against the five goddesses, Amruva escaped the battle and, scared of death, hid in a dead cow’s body. After seeing him in the cow’s body, all five goddesses created a new avatar with their dead skin and dirt.

After creating the goddess avatar, she went inside the cow and killed the demon Amruva there. The goddess went to ask the five goddesses for their blessings soon after she got back, but they refused as the five goddesses were considered impure.
