Mark Rypien Sued By Longtime Partner Danielle Wade Over Domestic Violence, Physical And Emotional Abuse
The couple previously discussed domestic violence, which they claimed was caused by head injuries Rypien sustained during his four years at Washington State and 14 years in the NFL. According to the lawsuit, Wade says that the relationship has been violent since 2008 and would continue until September 2020.
Danielle Wade is suing the former Washington quarterback. They never married, though she did take his surname for a short time.
Rypien is accused of abusing her for years, from 2008 until 2020, according to the lawsuit. Rypien hit Wade with a car, shoved Wade, and pushed Wade into a car door, among other things.
Rypien’s diagnosis of traumatic brain damage is acknowledged in the case, but Wade’s attorney, Mary Schultz, said, “That does not give him licence to abuse his wife.”
Rypien’s lawyer issued a statement on his behalf.
The statement states, “Mr Rypien completely and unequivocally condemns domestic violence.” He recently ended his romance with Danielle Wade.
“Mr Rypien admitted and apologised for conduct that was damaging to Ms Wade during this relationship, for which he is deeply sorry,” the statement reads.
“He has total faith in the court system and believes that the parties will be able to reach an amicable agreement and move on with their lives.” According to the statement, Rypien “hopes the parties can reach a just conclusion.”
In 2019, Rypien was arrested and charged with domestic assault, but the accusations were dropped. During an argument, he admitted to striking Wade.
Rypien thinks he has CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. He was one of the former NFL players who sued the league for failing to address “repetitive traumatic brain injuries and concussions” caused by the sport.
