Hojlund recently sat down for an interview with Mark Goldbridge, who has criticized several Manchester United figures in the past.
Mark Goldbridge receives dead threats
Rasmus Hojlund, who is still in his first season at Old Trafford, recently spoke to The United Stand’s Mark Goldbridge. Hojlund did an interview with Goldbridge just last month after promising to do so following his ยฃ72 million arrival from Atalanta. While the duo discussed several topics, some of his fellow squad members did not seem to appreciate him. This is because the channel has previously criticized several Manchester United players.
However, this was nothing compared to the backlash from Manchester United fans, involving death threats and a police investigation. The United Stand reported that they have received warnings forย Mark Goldbridge, stating that he is โa dead man walking.โ Several other warnings threatened to harm him if he ever went to Old Trafford again. Notably, the messages were sent on social media, and some also โmentioned other members of staff and the exact location of the studio.โ
Following the incident, Manchester United stepped up security by calling in the cops on Tuesday. According to a statement from the Greater Manchester Police:
Officers have spoken with the victim and relevant information has been passed over to the police. Enquiries are ongoing at this stage.โ
Goldbridge also stated:
I totally understand that football is a passionate and divisive sport, and that people are free to decide and have an opinion on what content they consume. However, the pile-on some of our staff were subject to over the weekend was incredibly sad to witness. To be threatening people’s lives yet again evidences the vile pack mentality that exists on social media.โ
Mark Goldbridge has had a scandalous past with the Red Devils for his criticism and targeting of players like Harry Maguire. United legend Paul Parker also recently criticized him, just a few months ago, while also accusing him of being a Nottingham Forest fan.
Rasmus Hojlund set to make a return
While Mark Goldbridge goes through a series of threats, Hojlund is all set to make a return to Erik ten Hagโs squad. The 21-year-old previously suffered an injury blow, which left him out for three weeks. The injury came in just as he was starting to find his top form in front of goal. Prior to his injury, Hojlund scored a double against Luton in his last match, meaning that he scored in six consecutive Premier League games.
The goal streak started off on Boxing Day when he scored his first domestic goal during a thrilling 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Hojlund broke a Prem record in the process to become the youngest player ever to achieve such a feat. The Danish striker will be back for Unitedโs upcoming FA Cup clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
