French defender Lucas Hernandez will face prison time in Spain for breaking a restraining order. Know all the details of his arrest right here and all the latest developments
Lucas Hernandez, 25 was sentenced to 6-months in prison by a court in Madrid for violating a restraining order.
Lucas Hernandez Case Explained
The Bayern Munich player recently won the UEFA Nations League with France against Spain on Sunday. The restraining order was issued against him following a 2017 conviction of domestic violence against his wife.
There was a court document released on Wednesday which said that Hernandez had been denied an appeal by a criminal court in Madrid against another previous suspended prison sentence for flouting the restraining order. Since he had already been given two criminal sentences, both related to the February 2017 incident, the document denied the French International’s appeal.
Hernandez and Bayern Munich’s spokespersons have yet to give a comment to Reuters about the 25-year old’s arrest. He has now been ordered to appear in a Madrid court on 19th of October, Tuesday. Hernandez has appealed against the court’s order.
Lucas Hernandez: Incident in 2017, wife and why he faces prison
The French International was sentenced to 31 days of community service for the act of domestic violence against his then girlfriend and now wife Amelia Ossa Llorente. The incident was a violent argument between the two in February 2017, when Hernandez was playing for Atletico Madrid.
Restraining orders were imposed on his wife Amelia as well for violence and damage to property but the couple violated them by traveling to the United States for their honeymoon. Hernandez was found of violating the orders in 2019 as well.
The Restraining Order
The restraining order limited him from being within even 500 metres of his wife, who was also given 31 days community service for assault. Soon after his honeymoon with Amelia, Hernandez was arrested in June 2017 for disobeying the restraining order. The Bayern Munich player must appear in Court on Tuesday to hear an order for him to turn himself in for a period of 6 months. Lucas will be given a period of 10 days to hand himself in to the authorities and his lawyers are working to appeal against this order.
