Sreeshankar is clearly a gifted athlete. His accomplishments at such a young age are astounding. He won the Federation Cup in Patiala in March 2018 by jumping 7.99m. Based on his performance, he was named to the Commonwealth Games contingent for 2018, but he was forced to withdraw due to appendicitis.
Despite this setback, he was able to compete in the Asian Junior Athletics Championship just two months later due to his strong will and determination. He took bronze with a jump of 7.47 meters, demonstrating that he is one to watch in the future.
Sreeshankar broke the national record in September 2018 at the National Open Athletics Championships with a jump of 8.20m. It was also the season’s best jump among under-20 athletes. As a result, he became the first Indian athlete to qualify for the 2019 World Athletics Championships, a remarkable accomplishment for the young athlete.
Sreeshankar qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by setting a new national record with a jump of 8.26m at the Federation Cup in Patiala in March 2021. He made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to qualify for the World Athletics Championships’ final round of the long jump. He placed seventh with a jump of 7.96 meters.
Sreeshankar drew attention when he became the only Indian male jumper to reach the World Athletics Championships finals. He finished seventh with a best jump of 7.96m. The 23-year-old can be proud that no Indian male jumper has come this far, or even close, in their first World Championships appearance.

Sreeshankar was born into a sporting family. S. Murali, his father, is a former triple jumper who won a silver medal at the South Asian Games. He is now his son’s coach. His mother, K.S.Bijimol, won a silver medal in the 800m at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in 1992. Sreeshnaksr is under a lot of pressure. Sreeparvathy, his sister, is a heptathlete.
