Liverpool Transfer News 2021-22: Liverpool Reingnite Their Interest In Belgium International Jeremy Doku

Get up to speed with the transfer news coming out of Premier League that Liverpool has started initial talks with Rennes over a possible transfer of Jeremy Doku

Jurgen Klopp’s team are back in the mood of acquiring the services of young Belgium winger Jeremy Doku who rejected them way back in 2018. Belgium International enjoyed a wonderful EURO 2020 featuring in 5 games for his country finding the net 1 time.

Doku really impressed in the EURO 2020 in a Belgium team that has a star-studded lineup and it is difficult for any young player to establish himself in the first team. However, he impressed Roberto Martinez and was his go-to substitute player when the team required a goal.

Meanwhile, Rennes have reportedly valued the youngster at £42.5million which is not too much considering Liverpool only made one new signing this season. But the only hurdle in completing the transfer of the teenager right now is the delay in the sale of some players at the club.

Premier League Transfer News 2021/22: Liverpool back in for Belgium International Jeremy Doku

19-years-old joined Anderlecht at the very tender age of 10 and progressed through the youth ranks of the club. Liverpool monitored his development in the Belgium League through scouts and even made him an offer in 2018 but the Belgian decided to stay at Anderlecht for further development.

Liverpool thought of him as an heir to Sadio Mane on that left-wing which has proven to be so influential over the past few years. Jurgen Klopp personally contacted the family of the player but the teenager had his heart in Anderlecht and refused to move.

He has featured in 37 games for the club in all competitions and scored 2 goals becoming an influential player of the team.

Move to Ligue 1, Career And Goals

In 2020, Rennes announced the signing of Jeremy Doku for a transfer fee of around €26 million which he justified by featuring in 37 games for the French club finding the net 2 times and supplying 10 assists during his time with the club.

He was selected for the EURO 2020 on the basis of extraordinary performances in the Ligue 1. Doku featured regularly but was used mostly as a substitute to provide some legs in the tiring game. However, his time to shine came in a match against Italy where he ran circles around Di Lorenzo and gave a soft penalty.

That penalty opened the scoring for Belgium but Italy later equalized and won the match. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds at Anfield ahead of the new 2021-22 Premier League season.
