There is also a team element with its own set of awards. Teammate Stingers Schwartzel, Du Plessis, and Grace dominated the competition. Here’s how it works.
South African Charl Schwartzel defeated compatriots Hennie Du Plessis to win the largest pay cheque in golf record at the LIV Invitational Series opener on Saturday.
The 37-year-old was three strokes ahead early in the third and final round at Cotswold course north of London, and he sealed the $4 million prize with a score of 72.
With only four of the world’s top 50 players in the tournament, the golf was mainly turgid, proving LIV is not immune to the plague of slow play. The last round took a little over five hours.
Nonetheless, the initial event had a huge influence. Throughout the three-day competition, prominent golf marketers and managers were seen.
